Our research is embedded into networks of local, national and international collaborations. These are in particular the Cluster of Excellence “UniCat - Unifying Concepts in catalysis ” and the CRC1078 “Protonation Dynamics in Protein Function ”, both financed by the DFG, which are also the main funding sources of our research. On the international level, specically strong ties exist with the Instituto de Tecnologia Química e Biológica der Universidade Nova de Lisboa .
Most of the research can be grouped into four major project areas, i.e. Biological electron transfer processes , Protein-membrane interactions , Metalloproteins and -enzymes , and Photoreceptors . Additional studies refer to the analysis of chemical catalytic processes, methodological developments, and analytical applications of vibrational spectroscopy (see Publications ).
